To formalize this collaboration, CEOs Adriano Alfani of Versalis and Gabriele Di Cintio of Acea Ambiente have signed a memorandum of understanding, focusing on technologies that recover value from post-consumer and post-industrial plastics.
The two companies aim to create an integrated industrial supply chain by analyzing the plastic waste entering Acea Ambiente's facilities. This analysis will determine its suitability for Versalis' recycling processes.
The agreement also encompasses the exploration of advanced recycling technologies, including Versalis’ Hoop technology, which is designed to recycle plastics that traditional mechanical methods cannot process.
Alfani, CEO of Versalis, stated that the agreement reinforces his company's dedication to a circular economy for plastics. He highlighted the recent opening of a new plant in Porto Marghera that produces plastics from recycled materials and mentioned that the Hoop chemical recycling demonstration plant for mixed plastic waste has been operational in Mantua for a month.
Di Cintio, CEO of Acea Ambiente, emphasized that this agreement is a significant step toward a system that recovers value from plastic waste, thereby benefiting Italy's circular economy. He also noted that Acea Ambiente's network of sorting facilities plays a critical role in establishing efficient and traceable recycling systems.
