Uzbekistan to launch first cross-linked polyethylene production

Uzbekistan is set to launch its inaugural production of cross-linked polyethylene raw materials, as announced by the Uzeltekhsanoat Industry Association.

Final contractual documents were signed at the association’s headquarters, formalizing an agreement to establish the country's first cross-linked polyethylene production facility.

This initiative has led to the formation of a joint venture, NASAF XCP TECHNO, marking the official start of the project.

The new facility will be developed in collaboration with Yunnan Xinchengpeng Polymer Technology from China, Techno Cable Group, a member of the UzElectroTech Industry Association, and the Shurtan Gas Chemical Complex.

The project involves a total investment of US$8 million and aims to produce 35,000 tons of cross-linked polyethylene each year. This endeavor will create 65 new jobs and reduce imports by US$30 million annually.

The production process will occur in two phases. The first phase, slated for March-April 2025, will focus on initiating production and testing the cross-linked polyethylene. The second phase, anticipated for August-September 2025, will involve acquiring equipment for producing halogen-free components.

Experts believe that this facility will fully satisfy Uzbekistan's domestic demand for cross-linked polyethylene, which has not been produced locally until now. With a market demand of 25,000-30,000 tons per year, domestic production will eliminate the need for imports.

Cross-linked polyethylene possesses enhanced properties due to the chemical or physical modifications of its molecular structure, making it stronger, more flexible, and more resistant to high temperatures compared to conventional polyethylene.

This versatile material is utilized across various industries, including the production of hot and cold water supply pipes, high-pressure gas pipes, and heating systems, such as underfloor heating. Furthermore, it is widely employed for cable insulation in the electrical sector.

The launch of this project will not only decrease import volumes but also bolster Uzbekistan’s industrial infrastructure, creating new avenues for the growth of domestic manufacturing.
