This announcement was made during a meeting regarding the draft State Program "Year of Environmental Protection and Green Economy," which was chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

To reach this target, the country plans to launch 16 large solar and wind power plants with a combined capacity of 3.5 gigawatts, five large hydroelectric power stations with a total capacity of 160 megawatts, and energy storage facilities with a capacity of 1.8 gigawatts by 2025.

It was highlighted that the "green economy" initiative encompasses more than just the development of clean energy; it also emphasizes enhancing energy efficiency across various sectors.

Uzbekistan is aiming for an economic growth rate of at least 6% this year, with a target GDP surpassing $125 billion. Achieving this goal will significantly depend on optimizing resources and enhancing cost-efficiency.

In this regard, the President has instructed the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Economy and Finance to create a program focused on reducing costs by 15-20% and boosting added value through improved energy efficiency.

Uzbekistan’s ambitious plans for transitioning to green energy mirror the global move towards renewable resources as a strategy to address climate change. This transformation not only targets the expansion of clean energy infrastructure but also aims to cultivate an economic environment that prioritizes sustainability. By investing in energy-efficient industries, Uzbekistan is establishing a foundation for a more resilient and sustainable economy. These efforts are in line with the country's broader strategy to diversify its energy sources, reduce dependence on fossil fuels, and simultaneously stimulate economic growth while generating new green jobs.
