Announcing the programme, Minister of Environment Tomáš Taraba highlighted its focus on helping companies covered under the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) — a scheme responsible for roughly 90% of Slovakia’s industrial emissions.
Unlike previous rounds, there are no limits on the grant size per applicant. Instead, projects will be evaluated based on cost-effectiveness, with preference given to proposals achieving the largest emission reductions for the lowest financial input.
To qualify, each project must demonstrate a reduction of at least 10,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent, calculated from the average of the past five verified emissions reports (with one outlier year allowed to be excluded). Only investment-related costs incurred after submitting the application will be considered eligible for funding.
The programme is structured to reward those who can deliver the most significant emissions cuts with the most efficient use of funds.
