Poland freezes energy prices for 2025

The Polish Council of Ministers has announced a freeze on household energy prices for 2025, ensuring that electricity costs remain steady despite market fluctuations. Starting January, the maximum electricity price for households will remain capped at 500 Polish złoty (approximately €116) per megawatt-hour, extending a measure introduced to protect consumers. Without this intervention, prices were projected to rise to 623 Polish złoty (€145) per megawatt-hour.

To further ease the burden on households, the government will suspend the capacity fee in 2025. By mid-year, energy companies will be required to propose updated tariffs to the Energy Regulatory Office, ensuring prices align with market trends. At this stage, the government will reassess the situation and determine if additional measures are necessary to support citizens.

While these steps provide immediate relief, the government is also laying the groundwork for a robust, sustainable energy strategy. Efforts are underway to diversify Poland’s energy mix, with progress in renewable energy development and nuclear power projects. Deliberations on the Offshore Wind Farms Act are ongoing, and new legislation to promote onshore wind energy is expected soon.

In addition to price caps, the government is exploring long-term solutions, such as energy vouchers and targeted assistance, to ensure households have access to affordable and sustainable energy. This approach seeks to protect families from rising costs while fostering a greener, more resilient energy future for Poland.re
