Chinese state-owned oil and gas company PetroChina is planning to launch a new polypropylene production facility in Guangxi, China by October, according to Chemical Week. The new plant will have an annual capacity of 400,000 tonnes.

The construction of this plant is part of a large-scale project to transform PetroChina’s Guangxi refinery into an integrated petrochemical complex. The project aims to shift the refinery’s focus from fuel production to chemical and organic materials, with a total output capacity of approximately 3 million tonnes per year.

This expansion includes the addition of 14 major petrochemical units, including facilities for the production of polypropylene, ethylene, butadiene, styrene-butadiene rubber, and units for the extraction of aromatic compounds used in polystyrene manufacturing.
