After two years of thorough research, tExtended is now entering its second phase, where it will continue to refine its Conceptual Framework. This knowledge-based solution emphasizes maintaining quality. Additionally, tExtended is preparing to test its framework in an Industrial-Urban symbiosis collaborative real-scale demonstration, with the ambitious goal of reducing textile waste by 80%.
These project activities will be implemented in various formats across all countries within the tExtended consortium, including Finland, Sweden, Belgium, France, Ireland, Latvia, Slovakia, Spain, Portugal, and Switzerland. The real-scale demonstration will involve broad collaboration at the European level, while localized regional studies will be conducted to assess the potential for replication.
This four-year project, funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe research and innovation program, is also placing a strong emphasis on the social dimension of the textile sector by engaging local community members in its activities. By involving citizens in various actions related to pre-sorting and returning used textiles, tExtended aims to enhance awareness of sustainability and circularity in textiles.
The journey towards developing the tExtended masterplan for a sustainable textile ecosystem has already led to significant achievements. Notably, the insights gained from improving upcycling processes and designing a future data-driven circular ecosystem will shape the ongoing efforts to meet the project’s objectives.
