This unit will be a part of Kazakhstan's first polyethylene plant located in the National Industrial Petrochemical Technopark in the Atyrau Region. This strategic placement aims to boost Kazakhstan's economy by increasing GDP, creating job opportunities, and fostering local business growth.

The ethylene technology by Lummus will play a crucial role in producing polyethylene through two stages: converting ethane to ethylene and then manufacturing polyethylene from ethylene directly. Lummus will provide the technology license, basic engineering, and training for the plant, which is designed to produce 1.3 million tons of ethylene annually from ethane sourced from the Tengiz oil field.

It is an honor to collaborate with Silleno and be part of such an important petrochemical project that is a major investment and growth driver for the Republic of Kazakhstan. We have executed several projects recently in Kazakhstan, so this builds on our experience and growth in the country. It also gives us the unique opportunity to provide our leading technology to help advance Kazakhstan’s energy and petrochemicals industry.

Lummus' scope of work includes utilizing their Short Residence Time (SRT®) heaters and olefins recovery system to enhance product yield and energy efficiency. This innovative approach reduces equipment needs by up to 25 percent compared to conventional systems, resulting in improved energy efficiency, reduced capital costs, and lower CO2 emissions.

As a leading provider of light olefins technologies, Lummus has secured nearly half of the new project awards since 2000 and has licensed over 200 ethylene plants worldwide, representing about 45 percent of the global ethylene capacity.
