Khasenov also mentioned that the growing demand for petroleum products necessitates the implementation of investment projects at refineries; however, the existing processing tariffs create a low-profit economy for such projects. Reporting on the progress of major petrochemical projects, where gas from Tengiz is used as feedstock, Khasenov stated that the construction of the Sileno polyethylene complex is expected to commence this autumn.

It is worth noting that in April of this year, the Italian engineering company Maire Tecnimont began developing an Extended Basic Design (EBD) for the polymerization units, alpha-olefins, and general plant facilities for Silleno.
