KazMunayGas and Sibur discussed cooperation on polypropylene and polyethylene projects

Chairman of the board of KazMunayGaz (KMG), Magzum Mirzagaliev and head of Sibur, Mikhail Karisalov, discussed cooperation on projects for the production of polypropylene and polyethylene in Kazakhstan, the KMG press service reported. - RUPEC

KMG management informed partners of the ongoing work related to the beginning of the planning phase for a new plant to produce polyethylene (JV "Silleno")

The polyethylene production project is under special control of the Kazakhstani government, given the expected effect on the country's economy and its importance for the development of the petrochemical industry.

Mirzagaliev noted

Previously, it was reported that Sibur, the National Wealth Fund of Kazakhstan (Samurk-Kazyna), and KazMunayGaz had launched joint ventures based on an integrated gas chemical complex for the production of polypropylene with a capacity of 500 thousand tons per year, as well as a project for the construction of a polyethylene production complex with a capacity of 1.25 million tons per year. Siburs share in each joint venture is 40%.

As a part of the joint venture, Sibur will share its wealth of experience in launching projects and operating world-class polymer complexes, Sibur will also take part in training the operating personnel of the facilties.

Sibur told RUPEC

The first batch of polypropylene ready for export, weighing 1.5 thousand tons, was completed at the KPI Inc. plant on the 18th of November.
