Kazakhstan reports growth in petrochemicals production

In the first ten months of 2024, Kazakhstan's petrochemical sector saw a significant increase of 460,700 tons compared to 269,000 tons in 2023. This growth spans the entire product range, as reported by Kazinform News Agency, referencing the press service of the Kazakh Ministry of Energy.

Notably, the production of methyl-tret-butyl-ether (MTBE) rose by 37,300 tons, reaching 114.6% of the previous year's figure of 33,100 tons. Polypropylene production experienced a remarkable surge of 241,000 tons, marking a 156% increase from the 154,100 tons produced in 2023. Benzol production grew by 26,600 tons, achieving 133% of the previous year's 20,000 tons, while paraxylene production soared by 109,400 tons, which is six times the 17,800 tons recorded in 2023.

Additionally, lubricants production increased by 46,200 tons, equivalent to 105.2% of the 43,900 tons produced in 2023.

These products are primarily exported to markets in the EU, CIS, China, Turkey, and Russia.

Furthermore, two new projects for butadiene and polyethylene production, with annual capacities of 305,000 tons and 1,250,000 tons respectively, are currently underway and are expected to be completed by 2030.
