Hungary announces deal with UK to develop small modular nuclear reactors

This week, an announcement was made following a meeting in London with his British counterpart, The Rt Hon David Lammy MP, Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs.

The announcement on cooperation between the UK and Hungary, which specifically mentioned SMRs and described Rolls-Royce SMR as a leader in the development and deployment of this technology, is exciting. Hungary is an experienced and credible nuclear nation and our work in Central Europe – including our strategic partnership with Czech utility, CEZ – means there is a huge opportunity in the region.

The Rolls-Royce SMR presents a revolutionary strategy for generating new nuclear power. Each 'factory-built' nuclear power station is designed to supply low-carbon electricity for over 60 years, enough to power one million homes, while also generating thousands of long-term, high-skilled job opportunities.
