Repsol

On the 13th of December 2022 as part of Digital Energy talks Taoufik Ait-Ettajer, Manager of Subsurface Technology Projects at Repsol Technology Lab and Corporate Venturing reviewed the challenges of the industry in addressing the subsurface challenges of the energy transition.

Coupling E&P Technology competencies with the low-C technologies market opens new product development opportunities.

Repsol identified 4 "Big Bets" including:
  • Sequestration + DAC +mineralization /utilization
Direct air CO2 capture locked into solid carbonate, minerals or employed in other uses.
  • Geothermal energy & lithium
Advanced geothermal energy technologies with opportunities in Li as a by-product.
  • H2 storage and production
Geological storage of H2 and natural H2 reservoirs production.
  • Emissions tracking
Blockchain used for CO2 allocation to Repsol products
From the presentation of Taoufik Ait-Ettajer

The subsurface technologies of Repsol TechLab and Corporate Venturing proposed the development of new products, the scaling-up and/or pivoting of existing proprietary technology products, with the incorporation of artificial intelligence, data analytics, and quantum computing techniques developed by Repsol experts in those areas
