E.ON, Eldrive Holding, and ZSE Secure €45 Million in EU Funding to Accelerate European EV Charging Infrastructure

A consortium comprising E.ON, Eldrive Holding, and ZSE has been awarded €45 million in EU funding to significantly expand electric vehicle charging (EVC) infrastructure across 13 European countries. The funding, provided through the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Facility (AFIF) II, will support the deployment of 1,400 new public charging points by the end of 2027.

The "DRIVE-E" project will address critical gaps in the existing EVC network, with a particular focus on facilitating the electrification of both passenger and freight transport. Notably, 430 of the new charging points will be high-power chargers, each with a capacity of 350 kW or more, specifically designed to meet the demands of heavy-duty electric trucks.

The new charging stations will be strategically located at over 250 sites across Germany, Austria, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria, and Slovakia.

This extensive network will provide crucial support for the growing number of electric vehicles on European roads, enabling seamless cross-border travel and promoting sustainable transportation.

Project Overview:

  • The consortium has secured 45 million euros in EU funding to expand electric vehicle charging (EVC) infrastructure across Europe.
  • The project, known as DRIVE-E, aims to establish 1,400 new public charging points by the end of 2027.
  • A significant portion, 430 of these charging points, will be designed for heavy-duty electric trucks, each with a capacity of 350 kW or more.

The DRIVE-E project will play a vital role in supporting the EU's Green Deal objectives and accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles across Europe.
