Constantia Flexibles develops ‘recyclable-ready’ mono PP solution for coffee packaging

Constantia Flexibles has introduced its mono PP laminate, EcoVerHighPlus, in collaboration with Delica, a part of Migros Industrie – a Swiss manufacturer of chocolate, snacks, cooking products, and coffee.

EcoVerHighPlus is designed specifically for coffee packaging, boasting ‘exceptional’ barrier properties that preserve aroma and freshness for both ground coffee and coffee beans. This innovative material structure aims to provide a recyclable-ready packaging solution without sacrificing quality or functionality. The mono PP valve enhances product freshness by allowing volatile gases to escape while preventing external gases from entering.

Recently, we had a conversation with Greiner Packaging regarding its partnership with Constantia Flexibles to create a home compostable coffee capsule solution. In this collaboration, Greiner Packaging supplies the capsule body, while Constantia Flexibles provides its EcoPressoLid. Once used, the entire capsule system can be disposed of in a home composting environment.

Thanks to our partnership with Delica AG we have successfully launched one of the first recyclable-ready mono PP laminates for coffee soft bags on the market. This represents a meaningful step forward for both the industry and the environment.

Earlier this year, Amcor unveiled its ‘recycle-ready’ refill pack for dry beverage products like instant coffee, claiming it offers a 73% reduction in carbon footprint while addressing consumer demand for recyclable refills. The paper-based stand-up pouch consists of 85% fiber content and has been certified by Cepi and Aticelca as curbside recyclable in ‘several’ European countries.
