Cepsa Química and Persán will use biofuels to transport their supplies, reducing their carbon footprint

Cepsa Química and the Persán group, a leading company in home and personal care products, have entered into an agreement. This agreement ensures that the transportation of chemical products from Cepsa to Persán will utilize 100% renewable diesel (HVO).

By opting for sustainable transportation, both companies will prevent approximately 126 tons of CO2 emissions annually, which is equivalent to the CO2 absorbed by a forest of over 8,000 trees in the same timeframe.

Cepsa Química supplies Persán with linear sulfonic acid or LABSA, a key ingredient in producing more than 60% of biodegradable detergents for household and industrial use. Being the world's top producer of linear alkylbenzene (LAB), Cepsa Química accounts for nearly 20% of the global market. This raw material is transformed into sulfonic acid and supplied to Persán and other clients.

Is part of our Next Chemicals in Positive Motion strategy, a transformative and regenerative process that Cepsa Química is carrying out to promote the transition towards more sustainable products and processes, as a necessary principle for a comprehensive and balanced ecological transition that improves the daily lives of people, companies and society as a whole.

The transportation of this product from San Roque to Persán's Seville facilities will now use HVO, a second-generation biofuel produced by Cepsa at the La Rábida Energy Park. HVO is derived from organic waste like used cooking oils and agricultural residue, promoting a circular economy. This renewable diesel significantly reduces CO2 emissions by up to 90% throughout its life cycle compared to conventional fuels.

This initiative aligns with Persán's comprehensive sustainability strategy, emphasizing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles. The company, under the leadership of Concha Yoldi and Antonio Somé, focuses on employee well-being, value chain enhancement, and sustainability integration into daily operations. Their commitment resulted in a 14% reduction in carbon emissions, earning them the 'Sello Reduzco' certification from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge.

Sustainability is a priority for Persán in all its areas of activity. This commitment is extended to all our partners such as Cepsa, with whom today we celebrate the signing of this agreement that is part of our 'Sustainability Director' plan, where the reduction of CO2 emissions is a priority. This commitment will undoubtedly contribute to the creation of a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future

Persán's CEO, Antonio Somé

Biofuels play a crucial role in decarbonizing transportation, responsible for 15% of global CO2 emissions. Cepsa's Positive Motion 2030 strategy aims to accelerate decarbonization through green molecule production, including renewable hydrogen and 2G biofuels. The company has been producing and supplying 2G biofuels since 2022 and is investing in a new plant in Huelva to meet rising demand, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy solutions.
