This rLLDPE represents the latest advancement in flexible packaging, utilizing Borealis’ Borcycle M mechanical recycling technology to produce high-quality materials efficiently. Developing an LLDPE grade with 85% post-consumer recyclate content is a notable technical breakthrough, highlighting Borealis’ EverMinds™ commitment to accelerating the transition to a circular economy.
The new grade is specifically designed for blown film applications across primary, secondary, and tertiary packaging. Key uses include stretch film, stretch hoods, and films for agricultural, industrial, and protective purposes. By minimizing the carbon footprint of end products, the rLLDPE aids Borealis’ customers in achieving their sustainability goals and promotes the movement towards more eco-friendly packaging.
With its impressive 85% post-consumer recyclate content, this new rLLDPE grade represents a major step on the path to a circular economy for plastics. Borcycle™ M CWT120CL will help our customers meet their sustainability targets while maintaining the high performance standards required for demanding flexible packaging applications—just one of the ways we’re re-inventing essentials for sustainable living.
Borcycle M CWT120CL was co-developed with Ecoplast—a partner within the Borealis Group—starting in late 2022. Its introduction in January 2025 signifies the successful culmination of over two years of efforts to address the challenges of integrating a substantial amount of recycled content while adhering to the stringent performance standards necessary for flexible packaging.
The outcome is a material that boasts remarkable stretchability due to its low gel content, along with an excellent balance of toughness and stiffness. These attributes make it an ideal choice for packaging manufacturers looking to comply with or surpass the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) without sacrificing performance.
