Once operational, the project is anticipated to generate 1,400 tonnes of compressed hydrogen annually, supporting the state's transportation sector by fueling nearly 100 fuel cell heavy-duty trucks and buses each day.
The facility features a scalable design, allowing for future expansion to accommodate the expected surge in hydrogen demand. It is set to begin operations in the first half of 2025.
By enabling on-site hydrogen production and refuelling, our plant aims to provide the most cost-effective clean hydrogen solution for fleet operators looking to decarbonise their medium and heavy-duty vehicles in southern California
Last year, Avina partnered with Chart Industries for the plant's development, with Chart supplying its Howden compressors for hydrogen refueling.
Chart’s Howden diaphragm D series compressors are intended to facilitate the safe and efficient transport of compressed hydrogen.
In late 2023, Plug Power announced it would provide a containerized PEM electrolyzer for the facility. The 5MW electrolyzer units are expected to produce up to two tonnes of hydrogen per day.
