Saudi-listed ACWA Power, a leader in water desalination, energy transition, and green hydrogen, started a 3,000 tonne-per-year green hydrogen project in Uzbekistan in 2023. The project was inaugurated by Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Saudi Arabia's Minister of Investment Khalid Al Falih.

Developed in two phases, the first is a 3,000 tonne green ammonia pilot project initiated in May 2023. The second phase will use 2.4 GW of wind energy to produce 500,000 tonnes of green ammonia annually.

This will be ACWA Power’s second utility-scale green hydrogen project after the NEOM Green Hydrogen Project in Saudi Arabia.

Hammad Masood, Director of Business Development - Green Hydrogen at ACWA Power, will be a key speaker at the Hydrogen in Central Asia and Caspian event. His presentation will explore the transformative potential of green hydrogen in the region. As Central Asia emerges as a crucial hub for renewable energy, ACWA Power’s insights into the integration of green hydrogen will provide a significant perspective on the future of energy in the region.

Special Presentation on GH2 Integration in Downstream

At the Downstream Central Asia and Caspian Business Summit (18-19 September, Astana), Mr. Masood will also deliver a special presentation on green hydrogen integration in oil and gas refining and petrochemical operations. This presentation will delve into the critical role of green hydrogen in decarbonising downstream operations, showcasing ACWA Power’s innovative approaches to integrating hydrogen solutions into traditional energy infrastructures.

Kazakhstan Representation and Pioneering Projects

In addition to the presentations, ACWA Power will be represented by a delegation from its Kazakhstan office, underscoring the company's strong regional presence and commitment to advancing renewable energy initiatives in Central Asia. The participation of three key representatives from the Kazakhstan office further emphasises the significance of the region in ACWA Power’s strategic plans.

ACWA Power’s involvement in the conferences also highlights their groundbreaking projects in Uzbekistan and Saudi Arabia. The Saudi Arabia project, recognised as the world's largest green hydrogen initiative, alongside their leadership in Uzbekistan's renewable energy sector, demonstrates ACWA Power’s dedication to sustainable development and energy transition on a global scale.
